How to buy a used phone without getting scammed
Seven simple checks to do before you pay for a UK-used phone.

Buying a used phone can save you a lot of money. Here is how to do it safely.
1. Meet in a busy place
Meet the seller in a shop or a busy public place during the day.
2. Check the IMEI
Dial *#06# and make sure the number matches the one on the box and in Settings.
3. Test everything
Calls, camera, speaker, charging port, Face ID or fingerprint, and Wi-Fi.
4. Check the battery health
On iPhone go to Settings › Battery › Battery Health. Below 80% means you will need a new battery soon.
5. Sign out of accounts
The seller must sign out of iCloud or Google before you pay.
6. Never pay before you see it
No deposits, no transfers before you hold the phone.
